Garden on the WallÂź Wins NYC&G IDA Award for 'Cartography'
Fairfield, NJ â Garden on the Wall (GOTW) announced today that the firm has won a prestigious NYC&G Innovation in Design Award (IDA) for one of its custom vertical wall garden creations. âCartographyâ by GOTW was selected as a winner from among seven other finalists in the Product Design category. The prestigious NYC&G IDA Awards were judged by a panel of key influencers in the design world, and are renowned for recognizing inspiring creations that break new ground. The award was announced at a gala ceremony in the Rainbow Room on September 19th.
â
âWe are thrilled that âCartographyâ has won an IDA award,â says GOTWâs Mine Hisim, Managing Partner. âI would like to thank the panel of judges, as well as everyone who voted for us. Weâre always looking for innovative approaches to integrating maintenance-free nature into designed spaces and have had an overwhelmingly positive response to all of our preserved garden creations. âCartographyâ in particular, however, has really resonated with the design world. Weâre very proud of that,â continues Hisim.
â
The Detailed Handiwork & Mapmaking Behind âCartographyâ
Created from ten different preserved fauna belonging to Eucalyptus, Forest, Flower Foliage and Moss families in GOTWâs extensive plant species library, and embedded into a Flat Moss canvas, the âCartographyâ garden offers remarkable color, depth, and texture. âThe diversity of plant species used reflects the layered, complex, diverse nature of the city itself,â continues Hisim. ââCartographyâ is so interesting because it presents a completely alternate vision of something so familiar â a map of Manhattan â and challenges viewers to imagine a âgreenâ New York⊠either as it was hundreds of years ago, or how it might look in a more sustainable near-future.â
â
âThe map was created with a CNC router for impeccable precision on the framework that houses the composition,â says Can Ozturk, CSI, Director of Architectural Sales at GOTW. âIt was then modified by our fabrication team, attending to all the small details to ensure a clean, seamless integration of each plant.â GOTWâs trained Installation team then attached each prefabricated piece per design grid, followed by a painstaking Touch-up/Micro-mossing process where they scrutinize each seam and detail to ensure precise visual standards are met. âAs you can see, a lot of work goes into even our smaller wall gardens,â continues Ozturk.
